My Outward Bound expedition helped me figure out who I am and what I can do

My name is Aryan and I’m a third-year finance student at the University of Calgary. When I came to Canada from India last year, I was a scared person who lacked confidence and communication skills, but I hoped that I’d change and acquire the skills necessary to become more confident, mentally resilient, and improve my communication skills. This hope led me on a journey of self-exploration and transformation.

I was constantly searching for ways and doing self-experiments to become more mentally tough, confident, and communicative. In this search, I came across the course OBHR 559 – The Haskayne Leadership Expedition, offered by the University of Calgary, and immediately signed up for it. The Haskayne School of Business had partnered with Outward Bound to make this backpacking trip a course, and I couldn’t pass that up.

Ultimately, the trip opened my eyes to new perspectives. I learned a lot about myself, gained valuable leadership skills, and made great connections with everyone in the group. And now I want to share my story with you to show you why you should choose Outward Bound for a life-changing, meaningful experience.
