Clayoquot Sound Sea and Surf Reach Beyond – 2021 Expedition
Revive your body and spirit on this Outward Bound Canada expedition in one of the world’s most remote and pristine wilderness areas. Clayoquot Sound, a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve, is known for its wild natural scenery including sandy beaches, inlets, clustered islands and ancient rainforest with thousand-year-old trees. It is home to three First Nations: the Ahousaht, Tla-o-qui-aht and Hesquiaht, who have stewarded these lands and waters since time memorial.
The small west coast community of Tofino, known for its natural beauty and surf culture, will be our launching point for a 5-day sea kayak expedition. We will paddle from Tofino into Clayoquot Sound and then onwards to Vargas Island, camping on white-sand beaches and in ancient rainforests, enjoying pristine west coast sunsets. If we’re lucky we’ll see marine life and wildlife on our journey; whales, dolphins, sea otters, seals, black bears and seabirds such as bald eagles and osprey. Vargas Island is a popular hiking, camping and kayaking destination due to its close location to Tofino yet it has a beautiful feeling of remoteness from the rest of the world.
