Outward Bound Canada’s 21-day courses are inspiring and challenging experiences centered on overcoming obstacles and teaching you how to achieve more than you ever thought possible. The goals and activities of this trip may seem intimidating to some – paddling long distances, portaging multiple kilometres – but working as part of a larger team, you will quickly learn that all you set out to do can be easily accomplished when to face your challenges head on and working together as an effective group. Together, you’ll learn leadership and compassion, helping you understand the ways you can influence and affect others, and how you can apply this in your day-to-day back at home. Gain confidence and determination as you see yourself achieve something you didn’t know you were capable of, and learn how there is so much more in you than you realize.

AREA & ACTIVITIES

Your adventure begins when you meet your group in Temagami where you will be transported into the Temagami area to paddle its beautiful waterways. Temagami is located in northern Ontario and characterized by landscapes of exposed Canadian Shield, panoramic views, sparkling waterways and some of Ontario’s last remaining old-growth pine forests.

Designed for students with or without prior camping or canoeing experience, this course will teach wilderness travel techniques and navigation, backcountry cooking, flatwater canoeing, minimal impact camping, camp-craft and wilderness safety. Course work for your high school credit will be done through these activities, group discussions and analysis, and daily journal reflections. This journey also includes an up to 48-hour solo experience where you will prove your skills while being supervised by our experienced instructional team. Often described as the most transformative part of the experience, your solo will give you the chance to reflect on earlier conversations from the expedition, absorb important realizations about yourself, and leave behind anything that will no longer serve you going forward.
