ABOUT THE COURSE
Run in collaboration with Adventure & Safety Atlantic, This 8-day course is designed for graduates of the Red Cross Wilderness First Aid who want to continue their training and upgrade their certification to the Wilderness First Responder level. This intensive Wilderness First Responder course equips participants with the knowledge and skills to evaluate medical emergencies and make decisions concerning field treatment and evacuation priorities. The course is recommended for outdoor education professionals, guides, wilderness instructors, people working in remote areas, and recreationists who may spend extended periods of time in the backcountry leading or tripping.
The WFR program is designed for Outdoor Professionals who will be managing wilderness activities resulting in an advanced medical response. Besides understanding the use of medical gear in the wilderness environment, the program establishes solid rescue interface practices, pharmacology limitations, and students will manage a remote overnight long-term care dilemma. This program will take 8 days to complete and will involve at least one overnight within a trip or excursion that will take place at the back end of the program. Majority of the program will be taught outdoors. Come prepared to be in and stay outdoors given the time of year
