Mindfulness is about being present, noticing when your mind has wandered, and gently bringing your attention back to the moment with curiosity, openness, and acceptance. An emerging body of research suggests that mindfulness boosts happiness, confidence, and self-esteem, and that it can be a powerful tool for emotion regulation and stress reduction. Practicing mindfulness on a regular basis has been shown to improve overall well-being and life satisfaction, and its focus on being in the present moment can help foster compassion and enhance relationships with others. Mindfulness is about self-awareness and self-discovery, and the Canadian Rockies offer an exceptional landscape in which to connect with yourself, those around you, and the natural world.
This course will give you the tools you need to be mindful in your own life, empowering you to be the best version of yourself and take on any challenges that may cross your path.
MAIN COURSE LEARNINGS:
- Attention and learning skills
- Social and emotional skills
- Techniques to work on auto-regulation
AREA & ACTIVITIES
No prior camping or hiking experience is needed. Your journey begins when you meet your group at the Calgary International Airport before heading toward the campground where you will get ready for your adventure. You will have the opportunity to experience this UNESCO heritage location. As you embark on your journey, you will make your way on foot through the world-renowned Canadian Rockies.
In addition to the personal journey, you will also learn techniques for backpacking safely and effectively in the mountains, meal preparation, minimal-impact camping, navigation, and how to assess and avoid hazards. This course also includes a possible solo experience where you will prove your skills while being supervised by our experienced instructional team. Often described as the most transformative part of the experience, your solo experience will give you the chance to reflect on earlier conversations from the expedition, absorb important realizations about yourself, and leave behind anything that will no longer serve you going forward.
