Temagami is home to some of the last remaining old-growth forests in Ontario as well as the oldest mountains in North America that now are worn hills. This area has over 4,000 km of canoe routes and has been maintained as a vast wilderness area including provincial parks and crown land. The area has been home to the Anishinabeg people for centuries, including Bear Island as well as pictographs on Lake Obabika. With colonialization came resource development, mining, and forestry.
