Temagami Wilderness Canoe Reach Beyond – 2021 Expedition
Refresh/revive your body and soul on this classic Outward Bound canoe trip through the pristine wilderness of Temagami’s deep waters and rugged pine shores. Temagami (meaning “deep water” in Ojibwe) is the home to the Teme-Augama Anishnabe Nation who have stewarded the lands and waters of the area for over 9000 years. Boasting the largest remaining red and white pine old-growth stands in the world, Temagami is a paddler’s paradise.
As guests to this sacred land, we will explore the ancient waterways by canoe, pitching our tents each night on beautiful islands and shoreline campsites as we paddle and portage our way from Lake Temagami to Lake Obabika and the famous old-growth forest. We will spend two nights in this magnificent place so that we can take our time and enjoy a leisurely hike on the forest trails to the ancient forest, a good place for quiet contemplation. On our journey we will have the opportunity to explore and wonder at geologic formations, the many pictographs highlighting the cultural heritage of the area, and as well experience great wildlife viewing.
We will start and finish the expedition at one of the rustic yet comfortable lodges within the Park; serving as both a starting off point for the group and a place to celebrate and reflect at journey’s end.
