West Coast 21-day Sea Kayaking and Surfing

Outward Bound Canada’s sea kayak and surf expedition is the ultimate West Coast experience. This journey takes place in Clayoquot Sound, on the edge of the Pacific Rim National Park. This has been the traditional territory of three Nuu-chah-nulth Nations, the Ahousaht, the Hesquiaht and Tla-o-qui-aht for over 5000 years. You and your group will move through the islands and inlets of one of Canada’s eighteen UNESCO Biosphere Reserves, camping on white-sand beaches and in ancient rainforests, enjoying pristine west coast sunsets.

This strenuous 21-day course is designed to make you and your group work together to overcome problems while honing your existing leadership and communication skills. You’ll be challenged physically and mentally throughout with a great sense of accomplishment that you will remember for the rest of your life.

Be ready to accept the challenge!

YOUR INNER JOURNEY

Outward Bound Canada’s Journey courses are designed to help you take charge of your life and realize what you are capable of.  Each experience begins with a physical journey – stepping out of the comforts of day-to-day routines and into an environment that may be very new, adventurous and exciting, but also foreign and uncertain. Facing these changes helps to bring out new perspectives. Using the challenges of the course as a starting-point, our skilled instructors will teach you how to transfer the skills learned on course to your life at home. These important life skills include caring for yourself, taking responsibility for your choices, expressing your needs and opinions with confidence, and working with others in your life at home.

AREA & ACTIVITIES

Sea kayaking: students will travel in either solo or tandem fibreglass sea kayaks. Most of the programming happens in class 2 water as outlined by the SKGABC. They will learn paddling strokes, self and assisted rescue techniques plus basic nautical navigation including understanding tides, currents and weather.

Surfing: students will be instructed in basic surf technique including understanding and reading waves, basic surf safety and etiquette.
