Your Inner Journey
Designed to provide a physically and emotionally safe environment in which to thrive, Women of Courage courses can provide a catalyst for powerful growth and change. On this hiking course, you will begin to open up and communicate with other women survivors of violence and abuse, working together as a team and working toward your goal together while bonding with the other women within this breath-taking landscape. On this hiking expedition, you will take turns navigating the group through this rugged terrain, pushing yourself through new and challenging experiences while feeling the support of these other incredible women behind you, helping you to realize your true strength. You will walk away from this experience with a strong group of support, realizing how far you have come, feeling more at peace and empowered and with the self-confidence and resilience to move forward from a place of strength and encouragement.
AREA & ACTIVITIES
Your journey will begin when you meet your group in Comox, British Columbia. From there you will traverse one of Canada’s most breath-taking landscapes.
An Outward Bound course is not a guided trip, it is an immersive experience led by you and your group. In additional to the personal journey that you undergo, you will also learn the foundations of minimal impact camping, hiking and mindfulness practices, navigation and orienteering. Your course also includes a 24-hour solo experience, where you will put your new-found skills into practice under the supervision of our skilled instructional team. Often described as the most transformative part of their experience, your solo also gives you the space to reflect on earlier conversations, absorb important realizations and let go of how we perceive ourselves – leaving you faced only with your true self, and coming to love and appreciate who you really are.
FUNDING & SUPPORT
Thanks to the support of our community, our Women of Courage course fees are fully funded by generous donations from a number of dedicated foundations, corporations, individuals and former WOC participants. Participants are responsible for funding their travel to and from the course location. We ask only that participants consider “paying-it-forward” to help other Women of Courage have this experience through a donation to the program.
