Owen Hosford Scholarship Fund

Growing up, Owen Hosford and his twin brother, Matt, were fortunate to have an outdoor program at their high school. The decision to enrol impacted their lives significantly. They spent a full semester learning about sustainability and environmental science in and outside the classroom.

After high school, Owen and Matt continued to seek out outdoor recreation such as hiking, canoeing, backcountry snowboarding, mountaineering and rock climbing.

Because this outdoor program impacted their lives so positively, Owen’s family couldn’t think of a better way to honour Owen’s life than by providing youth with some of the same experiences that helped shape and nurture the passion Owen had for life.

Owen’s family hopes that successful candidates will:

  • Experience a greater connection to the outdoors
  • Gain leadership skills
  • Grow confidence
  • Overcome physical and mental adversity
  • Improve their communication with peers

Matt competed in the Fat Dog 120 Ultramarathon in August of 2017 to raise money to initiate this scholarship. By the end of the 2017 summer, the fund has raised over $35,000 and Owen’s family created an endowment fund to begin the sustainability of this scholarship.
