Indigenous Youth
For nearly 40 years, Outward Bound has offered programs for Indigenous participants that bring together Indigenous Peoples from across the country to experience and connect with the Land.
Courses for Indigenous youth allow participants to meet and learn from other youth from Nations and communities while participating in an Outward Bound experience. The courses are offered in regions across the country and include backpacking, hiking, canoeing and kayaking.
Through our Custom Group Programs, Outward Bound collaborates with Indigenous communities and organizations to develop inspiring and valuable programs that combine the philosophy of Outward Bound and the goals of the communities involved.
Outward Bound’s Programs for Indigenous Youth and Adults are guided by the following principles:
- Community-driven: direction and goals are established by our community partners.
- Locally-connected: built on the particular cultural strengths, traditions and values of the communities we serve.
- Capacity-building: create lasting value and build capacity for our community partners.
- Deep collaboration: we aspire to build authentic partnerships that support the long-term development goals of Indigenous communities.
Funding for these courses is offered thanks to the generous support of individual donors, corporations and a number of dedicated foundations, providing sustainable, long-term funding for the growth of programming for Indigenous participants at Outward Bound Canada.
In addition to offering fully funded courses exclusively for Indigenous youth and adults, Indigenous youth are also eligible to receive the RBC Future Launch Leadership Award to cover the cost of any of our programs.
