About Supported Hiring Partnerships
We partner with employers across BC, AB, and ON to connect them with young adults (18-30) who have completed 24 days of intensive pre-employment training. Employers can hire for existing roles, create a short-term position, get support on a specific project, or use wage funding to offset recruitment and onboarding costs. We work closely with you to find the right fit for your organizational needs.
Employers can access up to 14 weeks of wage funding, along with ongoing support from YCC staff. This creates a flexible, inclusive hiring option that adds capacity to your team while helping young adults build skills, confidence, and meaningful work experience.
Participants come from diverse backgrounds and may be navigating barriers such as limited work experience, systemic discrimination, or lack of access to networks. They are still building workplace confidence and consistency, and YCC stays actively involved to support both the participant and the employer during the early stages of employment.
Key Details
Why Hire Through YCC?
Employers who hire through the YCC program benefit in several meaningful ways:
Employers can access wage funding to help offset the costs of hiring, onboarding, and early training. Funding is available for 7 to 14 weeks and can cover 50-100% of provincial minimum wage. This reduces the financial pressure of bringing on a new team member and makes it easier to add capacity or try out a new hire.
You’ll connect with young adults who are in the early stages of their employment journey after completing four weeks of foundational training. Participants apply to open roles within your organization, and YCC stays involved to support onboarding, clarify expectations, and help navigate any early workplace challenges.
Supported Work Experiences give employers a chance to get to know a young worker as they build their skills. When there’s a strong fit, many employers choose to continue the role beyond the funded period and invest in that young person’s long-term growth.
Our program team provides coaching, mentorship, and support to both the employer and participant to ensure a smooth transition into the role.
By partnering with YCC, you contribute to a more inclusive workforce by supporting youth from diverse backgrounds, including those who identify as BIPOC, 2SLGBTQIA+, newcomers, and those facing systemic employment barriers.
How It Works: Step-By-Step
Reach out and tell us about your hiring needs, whether it’s an existing role, a short-term position, or support for a specific project. We’ll share an information package and set up a short meeting to walk you through the program, wage funding, and what to expect.
Participants apply directly to your open roles. We can share resumes and help coordinate interviews with candidates who may be a good fit. You decide who to interview and whether to hire.
Once you decide to hire a YCC participant:
- We confirm the details (start date, schedule, wages, job duties).
- You receive the Supported Work Experience Agreement, wage funding information, and any required forms.
- We provide onboarding guidance and help arrange any accommodations or supports the participant has requested.
After the participant starts their role:
- You receive ongoing support from YCC staff.
- The participant receives direct coaching and mentorship throughout the contract.
- We do a quick mid-placement check-in to make sure things are going smoothly for both sides.
- Employers submit monthly pay stubs for wage funding reimbursement.
After the Supported Work Experience: What’s Next?
- Employers may choose to extend the role or offer a reference.
- A short feedback survey helps us strengthen the program for future participants and employers.
- YCC can help identify additional funding for continued employment, if available and applicable.
