The Role

The Sales & Partnerships Manager plays a key role in deepening the impact of Outward Bound Canada by building the pathways that bring schools, partners, and communities into our programs. This role ensures that new and returning groups experience a seamless journey from first contact to course delivery — strengthening our national reach and expanding access to transformative outdoor education.

You will expand market reach, lead prospecting, relationship development, and sales efforts that connect partners with our wilderness, urban, and community-based programs. The role blends relationship-building, strategic insight, and coordination — ideal for someone who loves connecting people with meaningful experiences and thrives in a dynamic, cross-team environment.

Working closely with regional and national program teams, you will help grow OBC’s presence across Canada and ensure our programs reach a wide diversity of communities aligned with our mission.

What We Offer
  • Location: Remote. Preference given to candidates located near OBC operating areas in Minden ON, Toronto ON, Cochrane AB, or Courtenay BC.
  • Salary: $60000 – $70000 Annually. This role is eligible for an incentive-based bonus for new customer development following a three-month probationary period, with details discussed with the direct supervisor.

Duties & Responsibilities

Outreach & Partnership Management

  • Grow and expand relationships with schools, youth-serving organizations, and community partners.
  • Develop annual outreach plans to grow OBC’s reach across diverse regions and demographics.
  • Represent OBC at conferences, community events, and sector gatherings to build visibility and partnerships.
  • Actively identify and pursue new partnership opportunities in alignment with OBC’s mission and growth priorities as identified in OBC’s annual planning and budget.


Sales & Program Coordination

  • Manage all inquiries, quotes, and bookings for school and group programs.
  • Execute a consistent, high-volume outbound sales strategy including cold outreach, networking, industry event participation, and targeted prospecting to secure meetings with potential partners.
  • Maintain accurate CRM records and steward the full participant pipeline from inquiry to registration to rebooking.
  • Hit revenue goals by developing strategy, managing pipeline, analyzing data, and fostering key relationships, acting as a crucial link between sales execution and program growth and development.
  • Monitor sales and participation trends; identify opportunities to increase engagement, retention, and conversion on a national level.
  • Support the development of revenue growth strategies and contribute insight to annual planning and cashflow.


Collaboration & Communication

  • Partner with Curriculum Manager and Marketing to align messaging, product development, materials, and outreach asset development.
  • ​​Collaborate with internal teams to develop and deliver customized partnership proposals and pitch presentations that connect brand goals with OBCs value proposition.
  • Coordinate with Operations teams to ensure smooth program planning, logistics, and customer communication.
  • Align with the Development team to ensure ethical distribution of restricted funds.
  • Act as a regional resource, within the scope of your ability and training, in times of high volume or emergent need.

  • Ensure outreach and program access strategies reflect OBC’s commitment to inclusion and belonging.

Qualifications & Experience
  • 3–5 years of experience in program sales, outreach, client relations, or partnership development.
  • Business or Marketing degree an asset.
  • Demonstrated experience meeting or exceeding outreach or sales targets.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with an authentic and approachable style.
  • Experience managing pipelines, CRM systems (Campbrain, Quickbooks, and Asana experience an asset).
  • Ability to analyze outreach, sales, and cashflow data to inform strategy and improve conversion.
  • Experience contributing to annual planning or growth strategies.
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail; able to balance multiple priorities and timelines.
  • Passion for education, nature, and community impact.

The Role

The National Risk and Safety Manager provides strategic leadership for risk management and safety across all Outward Bound Canada programs. Reporting to the Director of Wilderness[1]  and working closely with program leaders, instructors, and regional teams, this role ensures that OBC’s risk management systems, safety practices, and field operations meet and exceed industry-leading standards.

This position plays a critical role in shaping and sustaining a proactive national safety culture. The Manager leads the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of policies, training systems, and emergency response frameworks that support safe, inclusive, and high-quality programming across diverse environments and regions.

Risk and safety are foundational to everything Outward Bound Canada does. This role exists to protect not only physical safety in the field, but also the trust placed in us by youth, families, partners, staff, and communities across the country.

The National Risk and Safety Manager plays a critical role in ensuring that OBC can deliver meaningful, challenging, and transformative programs while operating responsibly, ethically, and sustainably. Strong risk management allows instructors to teach with confidence, supports staff in moments of complexity or crisis, and ensures that our programs continue to evolve alongside changing environmental, social, and operational realities.

In this role, you will:

  • Provide national leadership and oversight for risk and safety across all OBC programs, courses, and training initiatives, ensuring consistency and excellence across regions.
  • Advance a forward-looking risk management strategy that anticipates emerging

  • Collaborate closely with program leadership and instructors to maintain, update, and embed OBC’s Safety Policies and Procedures into daily practice, training, and decision-making.
  • Design and manage systems that ensure compliance with occupational health and safety legislation while supporting the realities of remote, wilderness, and youth-focused programming.
  • Lead analysis, policy development, and best-practice guidance related to evolving operational risks, including communicable disease management, sexual misconduct prevention, and climate-related impacts on programming.
  • Strengthen the risk management components of staff training systems, ensuring instructors are informed, confident, and actively engaged in OBC’s safety culture and risk tolerance.
  • Ensure compliance with regulations by conducting risk assessments, training staff, investigating incidents, and managing emergency plans, all to foster a safe workplace and protect organization assets, balancing operational needs with stringent health & safety standards.
  • Conduct and support Regional Safety Reviews in alignment with OBC’s Risk Management Policy, working collaboratively with regional leaders and the Risk and Safety Team.
  • Lead ongoing incident analysis and reporting, including the preparation of OBC’s Annual Field Safety and Risk Report and any substantial incident reporting as required
  • Partner with the Risk and Safety Team and Regional Safety Officers to ensure National Crisis Protocols and Regional Emergency Plans remain current, tested, and actionable.
  • Serve as the lead of the National On Call emergency support team for field programs and act as Incident Commander when required.
  • Manage OBC’s liability and vehicle insurance relationships, contracts, and documentation.
  • Act as a regional resource, within the scope of your ability and training, in times of high volume or emergent need.
  • Position OBC as a leader in risk management within the outdoor and experiential education sector through outreach, consulting, training partnerships, and contributions to industry conversations and publications.
  • Act as primary contact for OBC’s medical director.

  • 5-7 years’ experience working in the Outdoor Adventure Education sector, with a mix of field and management experience
  • Highly proficient at technical writing and public speaking in English; French is an asset

The Role

The Ontario Urban Wild Facilitator plays a key role in bringing Outward Bound Canada’s curriculum to life in Toronto’s parks, ravines, waterfronts, community green spaces, and urban trails. This role blends outdoor skill-building, social–emotional learning, and group facilitation to create meaningful, accessible, and inclusive experiences for youth.

Working closely with students, instructors, and community partners, the Facilitator supports day and multi-day local programs, leads activities that build confidence and resilience, and helps participants explore the natural world within an urban setting. Strong facilitation skills, solid judgement, and a commitment to OBC’s mission and values are essential.

What We Offer
  • Location: Toronto, based out of Evergreen Brickworks   
  • Salary: $50,000 – $54,000 annually

Duties and Responsibilities

Risk Management

  • Uphold Outward Bound Canada’s National Safety Policy and risk management standards.
  • Assess group readiness and proactively identify/mitigate risks during urban outdoor activities.
  • Supervise students across diverse urban environments and intervene when safety requires it.
  • Respond appropriately in first aid situations and know how to use safety and communication equipment.
  • Exercise sound judgement when plans shift; follow protocols and make decisions in the best interest of participants.
  • Complete all required paperwork (course logs, incident reports, early departure forms, etc.).


Technical Competence

  • Confidently lead participants through outdoor activities common to urban programs (hiking, orienteering, waterfront sessions, cycling initiatives, group challenges, etc.).
  • Navigate using map and compass in urban park/trail systems; teach basic navigation skills.
  • Maintain and support gear such as day-packs, stoves, tarps, or program materials; assist with basic repairs.
  • Understand the local environment—weather, terrain, seasonal considerations, and local hazards.
  • Teach foundational outdoor living skills appropriate for urban-based programs and overnight outings.
  • When water-based sessions occur, provide safety instruction and support simple rescue techniques within OBC scope.

Minimum Requirements

  • Current Standard First Aid & CPR-C.

The Role

Outward Bound Canada operates an urban outdoor program in and around the GTA as a complement to our wilderness programming.  This program pairs canoeing, backpacking, and urban navigation to provide continuous journeys through the natural spaces in and around our cities.  We are striving to provide life-changing outdoor educational experiences that are accessible, relevant, and contribute toward a better world.  Our students include both school and community groups as well as individuals looking for a journey in their own backyard ranging from 1-15 days long.  Outward Bound Canada is looking for enthusiastic, hardworking individuals who have the credentials and capacity to work at the Toronto Urban Centre providing exceptional educational programming to students, teachers, and schools on a part-time or on-call basis. This casual position offers the flexibility to create a schedule that suits your lifestyle, all while making a meaningful impact through exceptional educational programming at the Toronto Urban Centre.

Competitive Pay
OBC instructor day rates range from $160 to $260 depending on location, previous experience, certifications and performance. For full-time salaried instructors, the salary range is from $45,000 to $50,000 plus benefits.

Benefits Available
All employees of Outward Bound Canada can access support services through our Employee Assistance Program, which includes counselling, financial advising, and more. Additionally, instructors receive a benefits package that includes $10 per day towards a Health Care Spending Account to support their health and well-being.

Flexible Work Options
Instructors may work full-time or on a course-by-course basis, depending on instructor availability and interests.

New instructors receive mentorship from more experienced co-instructors to develop skills and progress in your journey. Feedback is ongoing, so there is ample opportunity to integrate your learnings along the way.

Expand your Skill Set
Each region runs in-house seasonal training for their instructors. Ongoing training is offered throughout the year, facilitated by external providers – past topics include: mental health wilderness first aid, trauma-informed care, emotional intelligence, leadership workshops, and more.

Support for Risk Management
Field staff can call office support 24/7 for coaching on navigating challenging situations and sharing updates from the field. Multiple two-way communication devices such as InReach, radios, and satellite phones are carried in the field. Our Admissions Department also conducts comprehensive medical and behavioural screenings for all participants before coming on course, setting instructors up for success in the field.

WHAT IS AN INSTRUCTOR

Outward Bound Canada instructors are passionate, multi-talented professionals who inspire and empower youth through transformative outdoor experiences.
As an instructor, you’ll lead backcountry expeditions, deliver impactful outdoor education, and foster leadership and emotional growth in your participants. You’ll also provide vital emotional support, navigating the challenges and rewards of the wilderness alongside your team.

When instructors are hired, their role is assigned based on previous experience and training.

ASSISTANT INSTRUCTOR

Build rapport with students and develop technical and facilitation skills.

INSTRUCTOR

Facilitate group processes and teach lessons.

LEAD INSTRUCTOR

Supervise the instructor team, ultimately responsible for risk management and overall course progression.

As an instructor, you’ll be prepared to facilitate engaging discussions and teach valuable lessons on a wide range of topics, including but not limited to:

Technical skills – backcountry camping, packing, expedition planning, cooking, fire building, weather systems, knots, tarp and tent set up, reading terrain, navigation, Leave No Trace, natural history and skills related to course type.

Interpersonal skills – conflict resolution, giving and receiving feedback, self-reflection, leadership styles, power and privilege, nervous system regulation, resilience, social-emotional intelligence, decision making.

Your ability to guide students through both technical and personal growth will be essential to their success in the program.

Most instructors work on a contract basis, meaning they are employed for the length of a course (typically ranging from 1-30+ days). The number of courses an instructor works is based on staffing needs and instructor preferences – some instructors work one course a year, while some work back-to-back courses all season.   • Instructors start work 2 days prior to student arrival to prep gear, food, lessons, and route plan.
  • In the field, instructors work together to teach lessons, plan activities, lead group travel, and support student needs.
  • Instructors wrap up a day after students leave, in order to clean and debrief.

Outside of working for OBC, instructors have many lifestyles and passions. Many work for other organizations in the outdoor industry as ski guides or in wilderness therapy, while others have full-time careers such as teachers or social workers. The possibilities are endless.

The pay scale was implemented in order to ensure transparency and recognize the diverse experience our instructor team brings to the field. All payscale categories add up to points that recognize your experience. Upon hire instructors fill a form to submit certification and experience, these will equate to points to find your OBC experience level.

Certifications

Each relevant certification adds additional points. Points correspond to the length and cost of the certification.

Education & Experience

University degrees, additional certifications, relevant work & OBC Online Training. Points correspond to the cost, relevance and duration.

Field Days

Each field day with OBC is worth 1 point. Other approved organizations and OBC training worth additional points.

Pay Range

OBC Experience Level ranges from 1 to 700+ points = $170 to $260 per day

All OBC regions require the following in addition to any regional requirements listed in the table on the following page:

  • Legally able to work in Canada
  • Clear vulnerable sector police check
  • First Aid Requirements:
    • Wilderness Programs: Wilderness First Responder (80hrs)
    • Urban Toronto Programs: CPR-C & Standard First Aid
  • Experience working with youth in an outdoor setting, with a strong ability to mentor, guide, and support their development in both technical and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of challenges youth face and experience applying inclusive strategies to support diverse groups of varying learning styles and backgrounds.
  • Experience in outdoor environments with practical knowledge of backcountry travel, camping, and outdoor education.

  • Hiking & Camping: Association of Canadian Mountain Guides (ACMG), Interpretive Guides Association (IGA), Outdoor Council of Canada (OCC)

Emphasize life experiences. What unique perspectives are you bringing? How will you inspire youth from diverse backgrounds? At OBC, we can help new instructors gain technical skills. Your lived experience and the personal growth you’ve derived from it is unteachable.

  • Include an accurate trip log – click this link for a great example. While you don’t need to have 100+ days in the field to be an instructor, sharing your outdoor and facilitation experience helps us understand your background and place you with effective co-instructors.
