Outward Bound Canada welcomes new members to its Board of Directors

We’re pleased to announce the arrival of five inspiring individuals to our Board of Directors: Palash Sanyal, Rory Moore, Andrea Mandel-Campbell, Kenneth Corts, and David Culbert

This dynamic group brings a wealth of experience in sustainability, leadership, business, and adventure to the organization, ensuring that Outward Bound Canada is well positioned for future challenges and growth.

Get to know our new board members!

Palash Sanyal 

Palash Sanyal is a seasoned sustainability professional, distinguished by his global engagement in training that converges management, governance, and sustainability.

At the heart of his expertise lies a profound understanding of water issues, informed by extensive experience in securing and managing multi-million dollar research projects. He currently contributes his knowledge and skills to several for-profit and nonprofit boards.

Rory Moore

Rory Moore is a retired executive with over 40 years of international experience in diamond exploration, mining and executive leadership. He is a proactive, results-oriented professional with a proven ability to build high-performing teams, cultivate stakeholder relationships, and transform corporate culture. Rory played a key role in the discovery and development of Canada’s first commercial diamond mine, the Ekati Diamond Mine, which went into production in 1998. Over the course of his career, Rory has held a senior leadership position in a major mining company, managed an international group of private companies, and led several junior public exploration companies as CEO.

Most recently, Rory held the position of President and CEO of Arctic Canadian Diamond Company until it was acquired by Burgundy Diamond Mines in 2023. Rory is a graduate of the University of Cape Town, South Africa, where he received his PhD in Geochemistry in 1986. He is a Professional Geoscientist registered with Engineers & Geoscientists, BC, and a graduate of the Institute of Corporate Directors – Rotman School of Management, Directors Education Program.

Andrea Mandel-Campbell

Andrea Mandel-Campbell is the founder of karibu adventures, a people and planet-positive travel company specializing in active adventures to unique wild places and hidden gems. She is a former foreign correspondent, television anchor, and author of the bestselling business book “Why Mexicans Don’t Drink Molson: Rescuing Canadian Business from the Suds of Global Obscurity.”

Andrea also worked as a senior advisor to a federal cabinet minister and was a corporate advisor on Bay St, heading up the Capital Markets practice at NATIONAL PR before founding karibu in 2022. She is an Operating Advisor with Vertu Capital and sits on the board of the Ontario Centre of Innovation.

When she’s not hiking in the Italian Alps or canoeing on the Temagami, Andrea likes to spend her time cycling and going on adventures with her husband and two kids.

Kenneth Corts

Professor Kenneth S. Corts is the Vice-Dean of Research, Strategy, and Resources, and Academic Director of the Lee-Chin Institute for Corporate Citizenship at the Joseph L. Rotman School of Management. He is also Academic Director of the Rotman Executive Leadership Program and Rotman’s ESG Certification Program.

Professor Corts holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Princeton University and has published research on contracting, pricing, competition policy, and technology adoption in leading academic journals. He has also published a series of Harvard Business School case studies used in leading business schools around the world, served as an editor for the Journal of Industrial Economics, and won grants and fellowships from the National Science Foundation, the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada.

In addition to his academic contributions, Professor Corts has provided expert testimony in competition policy cases before the Canadian Competition Tribunal and the Ontario Superior Court, advised the UK Office of Fair Trading, and consulted on antitrust matters in the United States. He has also held positions on the boards of nonprofit organizations such as the International Centre for Pension Management, Trinity St-Paul’s United Church and the Waldorf Academy.

David Culbert

Dave Culbert is currently senior vice president, strategic operations and impact investing, Heart and Stroke Foundation. As an integral member of the executive leadership team, he leads integrated planning and project management oversight throughout the organization, as well as the Impact Fund, an investment fund that supports research, strategic innovation and social enterprises.

Prior to joining Heart & Stroke in 2021 as lead for integrated planning for growth, Dave served as director, strategy and corporate development at George Weston Limited. In this role, he led and supported strategic initiatives and merger and acquisition projects across George Weston Limited’s holdings, including Loblaws, Weston Foods and Choice Properties. He also has extensive experience advising clients in a variety of industries including financial services, not-for-profit, energy, health care and private equity, which he gained while working as a consultant for global management consulting firm, Bain & Company.

Dave holds a bachelor of arts degree from Colorado College and a masters of business administration from the Yale School of Management. In his spare time, he enjoys cooking, cycling and spending time outdoors with family.
