Emily Boyes
National Risk and Safety Manager – SHE/HER
Emily is from n’Daki Menan, the Indigenous name for the Temagami region in Ontario, home to the Anishinaabe and Teme-Augama Anishnabai peoples. Her affinity for water and the outdoors was cultivated during her childhood, spent canoe tripping across Ontario, western Quebec, and northern Manitoba. She completed the Adventure Guide Program at Thompson Rivers University from 2012 to 2014, which equipped her with a blend of practical and theoretical knowledge, focusing on risk management in outdoor settings. Since then, she’s worked in the outdoor industry as a wilderness guide, program director, and outdoor educator where she’s been responsible for managing and mitigating field and organizational risk.
In the wilderness, Emily enjoys learning from the land, embracing a simpler lifestyle and cherishing the natural beauty surrounding her. Back at her home base in Victoria, her hobbies include trail running and ultra-distance competitions, pottery classes, ASL lessons, and dancing with a local performance company. Additionally, Emily dedicates her time to volunteering at the Victoria Sexual Assault Centre, offering support to survivors of sexual assault.
