Vancouver and Lower Mainland School & Groups Programs

Outward Bound Canada (OBC) offers a range of programs tailored to schools and groups (ages 12 to 29), adapting to different abilities and comfort zones. All programs share a common element: immersion in a new and natural environment where participants engage in hands-on learning experiences and reflect on their journey.

Our distinctive outdoor education experiences leave a deep impression on participants by fostering group cohesion and giving each individual the opportunity to acquire new skills and build self-confidence in a risk-managed environment.

Our programs in British Columbia take place in a variety of beautiful natural settings in Vancouver and the Lower Mainland. By being close to both frontcountry and backcountry areas, we’re able to offer participants the unique opportunity to develop and hone their outdoor skills in the frontcountry before embarking on classic Outward Bound wilderness adventures that can range from 2 to 10 days in any season.

Our school and group programs focus on immersion in nature and teaching skills such as:

  • Cultural competence
  • Backpacking
  • Canoeing
  • Rock climbing
  • Snowshoeing
  • Winter discovery (i.e., personal cold weather skills, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, winter shelters, winter cooking)
  • Campcraft (i.e., building a fire, choosing a site and building a shelter, cooking, navigating, water purification, and tying knots);
  • Wilderness expedition skills
  • Developing leadership, resilience, and compassion skills
  • Conflict resolution and group dynamics
  • Risk management
  • Solo experiences to promote self-reflection and awareness.
  • Service opportunities to teach community impact

Program PRices

To fulfill our mission of making the outdoors accessible to youth who are underserved by outdoor education opportunities, we offer subsidies and funding to schools and groups made possible by our supporters. If you’re looking for information about our subsidies for school and groups, please reach out to groups@outwardbound.ca. 

Our prices reflect our low student-to-instructor ratio, our high-quality, certified and experienced staff, and our risk management practices.

  • Day program prices are $175 per student, which includes equipment, lunch and snacks.
  • Overnight program prices are $350 per student per day. This includes equipment and all meals throughout the duration of the course
